The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has begun an anti dumping investigation into imports of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) from the European Union, the United States, South Korea and Taiwan. The probe was opened on 29 September 2026 after an application by Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corporation Limited.
The case, numbered AD/OI/063/2026, covers indicative tariff code 2905 12 20. The investigation period runs from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026, while injury will be examined from FY23 through the end of that period.
In its initial assessment, DGTR found dumping margins above the minimum threshold, rising import volumes and signs of injury to domestic producers, including weaker prices, profits and returns on capital.
Interested parties must register on the SETU portal. Questionnaire responses are due within 37 days and comments on product scope within 15 days.
Market Research Outlook: Indian IPA capacity has grown in recent years, so cheaper imports hit local producers hard. Duties would lift domestic prices and protect investments by companies like Deepak Fertilisers. Users in pharmaceuticals, inks and electronics cleaning should prepare for higher isopropyl alcohol costs if duties follow.
